More Doorbell

Notes on the new Doorbell Pepper:

I am totally geeking out over Doorbell. I haven’t felt like this big of a dork over flashing colors and little beeps since Super Mario Bros.

It’s totally Pavlovian, I’m sitting here transfixed waiting for those little green flashes that I am sure I can now survive on solely.

  • The Doorbell Pepper allows you to listen to the pulse of your site while viewing Mint. You can hear the difference between unique and repeat visitors. You’re either going to love it or hate it—and even if you do end up hating it that doesn’t necessarily mean you will want to uninstall it.

  • Flash doesn’t play in background tabs in some browsers (notably Safari) so neither does the Doorbell. If you’re looking for a persistent fix consider combining Steven F’s WebDesktop (or similar) with the Doorbell and Refresh Pepper. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you.

  • Leslie has taken to announcing her presence when she steps into my office by going, “blip.” If she she returns shortly there after, it’s “bloop.” Cute.

Can I get a version that uses the Twitter API to automatically tell all my Twitter friends when someone has rang my doorbell? Please? And can it, besides chirping, also do a little dance. Also, I think the window should be brought to the front automatically when it chirps. I’m looking for the maximum amount of distractions possible. Also, maybe it could e-mail me when someone rings my doorbell. And also send me an SMS.

You’ve given my Mint stats tachycardia, my site is in dire need of medical attention. Wheres my Pepper for that?

I just installed the Doorbell Pepper and I dig it, though that’s probably because I don’t keep Mint open all the time, so I won’t be distracted constantly (I use the Dashboard widget mostly).

And for the record, I got a kick out of Leslie’s doorbell likeness.

The Doorbell is great right after you post something new on your site and all your readers click through from your feeds. And by great I mean really irritating. :)

As for the tachycardia, there’s always the “Visual flash-only” option. It’s a Mint rave!

Installed it and found it very interesting. I’m using FF on windows and the doorbell doesn’t ring on a not-active tab, wish it would!

Classic. And just when I thought nothing could be more addictive than Twitterific. My desk neighbors would sorely disagree, but I’m hooked. :)

My luck, my fifteen minutes of fame and my name is misspelled. It’s Campbell not Campell. Oh well, I’m going back to my mint now, I know it loves me Sha_n.

You know something Shaun. I was seriously thinking of making a pepper that did just this. I had the idea a few weeks back. It was one of those ideas you get just while lying in bed before falling asleep (luckily I keep a notepad next to my bed). I’m glad you’ve done it though. I’m totally addicted to it!
