You have to wonder what goes through people’s minds when they choose to pirate designs like that…
“Let’s see here… tweak the colors a bit… swap out this screenshot… perfect! Nobody’s none the wiser…”
It doesn’t surprise me that what they’re selling is a windows “theme” application, yet they’re using Apple monitors and trying to mimic the Aqua and the Mac OS with their icons. Too bad they’re missing the point that no matter what GUI changes they make, it doesn’t change the fundamental feel and way Windows actually “works”… which makes ripping off the Mint site even more tragic…
Funny that the app in question seems to be a windows-based rip-off of an app that was written for posters on the macthemes.net forum (SnapShooter, as mentioned on the site), even using the exact same graphics and themes (such as the overlaid photographs).
But hey, at least they didn’t rip off the site desi… oh wait. Well, at least they didn’t put their own copyright notice on… oh, they did that too? Hmmm…
There’s a forum post that outlines the design process:
It should be noted that the layout is heavily inspired by another website out there. If I go ahead with these then I’ll be noting that on the sites. (Anyone who has followed any of my work knows that I’m a stickler for giving credit where credit is due.)
A stickler for giving credit eh? Shaun—you should just pop into that forum and just play devil’s advocate just to see the reaction… you know something like:
“Nice design… I’d be interested in hearing where you got your inspiration…”
Nah, that won’t resolve anything. At this point, design theft isn’t worth my time (beyond calling them out initially to save myself from a bunch of the inevitable “omg1 have you seen …?” emails).

I love how the main site says it was recently “attacked”. It was attacked by a Mint cloner that must be killed!

Nice find Scott. Funny, no credit in the browser detecting JavaScript or any of the three browser-specific stylesheets it loads.
Now that’s weird… You should make a gallery of sites that made ripoffs from haveamint.com and post them here. Or on flickr. With links.
Afterthought: Well, since the app is a ripoff too, you can’t expect much, I guess.
Reminds me of another site, forget what. Looks real nice! Hopefully there is an AA meetup close to you Shaun. Good luck with that!
Hmm people just don’t stop copying Mint. Just take it as a compliment! :D

Maybe he’ll take a clue?

Wow. I really need to step in there and nip that misconception in the bud. What ever happened to reading comprehension?
