What’s the Word

Written around February 2005

While attending the 2005 South by Southwest Interactive conference I was asked to participate in the Fifth Annual 20x2. Each year for the past 5 years the 20x2 event organizers have selected 20 individuals and given them 2 minutes each to answer a single question. This year’s question was “What’s the Word?” and this song of the same name was an experiment in dropping as many names as possible into a two minute ditty.

I know a Ms. Santos, Maria J
there’s a pretty good chance I keep up with <insert name />
A short stop at ShortStat and I’m back on my way
got a do-or-die Ta-da List of things due today
and though I’m known to get sidetracked at sidesh0w
you’ll never know how good that kid’s kool-aid might be
until you ask one of Ethan’s three
readers
, screen readers, yeah you and me and She

Tell me now have you heard?
can you tell me, oh what’s the word?
I fell behind when my NewsFire trial expired
so couldja slide me just a little bloglines (or NetNewsWire)?

Another day, another Crofty scheme
always pining for Apple schwag seen on Mike Industries
PC news of a new IE needs a dose of Mezzoblue or Keith for clarity
have you seen Jeffrey’s video keynote stream?
What about Dooce on the news?
Jon Hicks is on fire, the ‘fox made it onto the cover of Wired mag.

As I’ve been telling everyone on the planet, I can now officially die happy.

No way. Shaun, did you actually sing this at 20x2? How in the world did I miss out??

Yes sir. I was up seventh, or rather sixth since they had difficulty with the video entry that was supposed to be before me. A bunch of people actually showed up right after I left the stage, maybe you were in that group? I think if the event had been an hour later it would have been better for all involved. Especially since the last session of the day ended only an hour before.

Well, truth be told, I wasn’t in any of the groups — couldn’t make it. So thanks for sharing with the rest of us.

I also got a couple of photos of it here.

Lastly, my video I did for 20x2 is also online here.

It’s as brilliant as I assumed it was. Now I have yet one more reason to loathe missing 20x2 this year. sigh.

[email protected], all in good fun. Sorry you couldn’t make it this year, I would have liked to see your face as I was singing that line. :)

She, you’ll have to coax Ethan into posting that. I’m usually more lively with an audience, and livelier still when that audience consists almost solely of Brits ;)
